November 16. That's the day that Midway will impale Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe onto retail shelves, at least in North America. European players, on the other hand, will have to wait until November 21 to see a newly frozen Supes served a painful uppercut to his chiseled Kryptonian jaw. Now all that remains to be seen is if Alex Ross alone has enough power in his brush to make us overlook such a ridiculous crossover, or if the pairing of magical ninjas and superheroes in tights is just too much to resist.
When we weren't taking photos, sitting in Starcraft 2 panels, or watching the closing ceremonies at BlizzCon, all of our available free time was devoted to Diablo 3. It was the first thing we played within minutes of the grand opening, and the game they had to pry us away from when the doors closed. Yes, it's just that good. Plus, we still have two character classes that haven't been revealed yet, so who knows what else this has in store for us.
We were happy just to be able to return to the world of Diablo after seven years since the Lord of Destruction expansion set was on store shelves, and it was worth the wait. Find out everything we could during our exhaustive hands-on after the break, and be sure to check out the galleries below that show off in-game screens and concept art. Plus we're sticking that gameplay footage in again, because it's the only way we can enjoy Diablo until there's a beta, or some sort of miracle occurs.
A NeoGAF member who hobbies as ESRB archive scavenger has stumbled upon an update for Marvel vs. Capcom 2 that lists the game for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game, a frenetic 3-on-3 arcade bralwer from 2000 (and probably one of the main reasons you keep a Sega Dreamcast around, assuming you didn't pick up the PS2 or Xbox One version), seems like a perfect fit for Xbox Live Arcade or PS Network. We've reached out to Capcom for more information.
Not everyone was thrilled with the weekend news that Blizzard is looking to monetize Battle.Net in some way. So we made that one of the first questions we asked Blizzard VP Rob Pardo. The good news is, they're not going to make Diablo III subscription based. Find out everyone he told us after the break.
Story guru Leonard Boyarsky and background artist Chris Donnelson spoke at yesterday's Diablo III Lore & Art panel just before the closing BlizzCon eremonies, and they detailed how the background of the previous two Diablo games will tie into this one. Check out the highlights after the break, and find out how the gameplay has been changed to emphasize the story and art in this title, and what's been happening in the 20 in-game years since the events of Diablo II.
If you've been playing the Wrath of the Lich King beta, then this stuff isn't new to you. However, it sure is pretty. All those lush environments, just waiting to be riddled with the corpses of the vanquished. Straight to you from BlizzCon comes the video above, and the gallery below.

Bethesda is throwing a radiation-hot launch party for Fallout 3 next Saturday in Los Angeles, complete with even more Vault Boy retro graphics. The party features headline music by the Foo Fighters, and it's hosted by Courtney Cox, David Arquette, Odette Yustman, Ben Harper, and it's being co-hosted by the Bethesda / Zenimax board of directors, which includes bigwig producer Jerry Bruckheimer, bigwig CBS president Les Moonves, bigwig MGM president Harry Sloan and and bigwig baseballer Cal Ripken, Jr.
That's an odd mix of folks to kick off this post-apocalyptic video game, but given the current state of the economy, maybe everyone is embracing impending disaster and learning to love the bomb. Joystiq will be on-hand to take photos and collect thoughts about Fallout 3. Plus those frolic-inducing spirits sounds pretty damn goon.
Fighting games have made a big comeback, and the evidence was clearly seen at TGS this year. Tekken 6's announcement for home consoles is one of the bigger stories on the show floor this year. (Probably because there wasn't that much else happening ...) Capcom's revival of the Street Fighter franchise in SFIV looks rather exciting, and the TGS trailer offers excited fans over three minutes of anime and fighting footage.
Not only does it have Shazam, but Ross as well. No, not that Ross, the other one. Midway announced that the upcoming "Kollector's Edition" of Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe will feature cover art by legenday comic painter, Alex Ross. Also included will be a 16-page prequel comic illustrated by Mortal Kombat co-creator, John Tobias, as well as extra videos of some sort. But just look at that cover!?
And if that isn't enough to relieve your wallet of an extra $10, the Kingdom Come artist's work will also be included as a seperate, removable print, which you can watch come to life in the video above while waiting for Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe to drop in from the Outworld this November.
Surprising almost no one, Tekken 6 has been officiallyannounced for a fall 2009 release on the PS3/Xbox 360. The new English language trailer takes us to the magical world of Tekken, where kangaroos and pandas can hold grudge matches against fat people. Who says games aren't art?
Stop your speculating, the Tokyo Game Show gives us all sorts of goodies, like the fact the the Flood is going to be in Halo Wars, which is coming "sometime" in 2009. Our own Chris Grant, esquire is jaunting off to a meeting about Halo Wars as we type this very post, and he's going to do some investigating to find out if the Flood is a playable race, or just something thrown in to make life a living hell for everyone. Now, if you got to play as Gravemind, that would be pretty cool.
A rumor we first reported on in Jan. 2007 has finally become reality. Microsoft confirmed during its pre-Tokyo Game Show 2008 press conference that Namco Bandai's Tekken franchise will appear on Xbox 360. Tekken 6 will, according to Microsoft, appear on the console in "fall 2009." The sixth installment in the series – which has been a PlayStation mainstay since the original launched in 1995 – was expected to continue console exclusivity on PS3. It will, instead, ship for both consoles simultaneously.
Hot from the Microsoft keynote at the Tokyo Game Show comes more retro arcade action. Been jonesing to play more Arkanoid ever since that thing came out back in 1986? It was Breakout on steroids, and ate quarters like Cookie Monster eats chocolate chip cookies. Super Arkanoid and Space Invaders Extreme will be out on XBLA this winter, and it'll be joined next year by Metal Slug 7 , R-Type and The King of Fighters '98: Ultimate Match.
The games will all be updated with new graphics, music, two-player and online modes, and will do a good job towards filling that vintage hole in your heart. Now Capcom, please give us some Darkstalkers, and we'll be happy.
Biohazard 5, or better known on our shores as Resident Evil 5 will finally be coming to the Xbox 360 after a long delay that saw it get pushed from April 2008 to almost a year later. Well, better late then never we saw, as long as we get to have fun blasting infected people. Is that too much to ask? We liked what we saw back in June, and are keeping our fingers crossed.
In addition to the previously confirmed Dan and Fei-Long, Joystiq's TGS crew will have a chance to play as two new additions to Street Fighter IV's home-only roster on PS3 and 360: Sakura and Seth, the arcade version's end boss.
Fan-favorite Sakura originally hails from Street Fighter Zero 2 / Alpha 2. She's the second confirmed female character exclusive to the home version; the other is slinky British special-ops officer, Cammy, who was the top choice in a poll on Capcom's site, ensuring her inclusion in the port.
The game's producer, Yoshinori Ono, has reaffirmed to Famitsu that a number of tweaks and fixes he had previously mentioned will make the home version of SFIV a more balanced offering compared to the coin-op. Ono also alluded to other additions for the console port, including a training mode. "It's more of a [Street Fighter] 4.1, you could say," Ono told the magazine.
